Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy

Mastopexy dr fevzi kunter erten

Over time, factors such as weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and aging cause the ligaments supporting the breast tissue to loosen. This leads to sagging and loss of firmness. One of the most common questions we receive is: “Is it possible to lift the breasts?” The answer is yes. Sagging breasts can be reshaped and lifted with a procedure called mastopexy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast sagging is determined during a clinical examination. Normally, the nipple should be about 4–5 cm above the breast fold. If this distance is shorter, sagging is present. The exact degree of sagging is evaluated by your plastic surgeon.

The surgery is planned according to the degree of sagging. Excess skin and tissue are removed, and the nipple is repositioned to the ideal level. The procedure takes about 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Most patients stay one night in the hospital. Pain is minimal after the operation. If an implant is used along with the lift, mild tightness may occur during arm movements for a few days.

• Swelling, bruising, and mild numbness disappear within a few weeks.
• A sports bra should be worn for 1 month. • Most patients return to daily life within 3–4 days.
• Avoid intense exercise for 2 months.

Yes. If sagging occurs only due to loosened skin, the lift can be performed alone. If sagging is accompanied by large volume, it can be combined with breast reduction surgery. For smaller, deflated breasts, silicone implants can restore volume and lift the breast upward.

If the procedure is performed as a lift only, the milk ducts are not affected, and breastfeeding remains possible. When performed together with breast reduction, it may rarely affect milk production. The ideal time is 6 months after birth and 3 months after the end of breastfeeding, ensuring longer-lasting results.

Significant weight changes or a new pregnancy may cause sagging to reappear. It’s recommended to be at your ideal weight and complete family planning before surgery.

Only mild discomfort may occur and is easily managed with painkillers.

A small scar will remain, as with any surgery. The extent depends on the degree of sagging. Usually, scars are around the areola and fade over time. In some cases, a short vertical scar may extend downward, or under-breast scars may appear in larger lifts.

Exercise or cosmetic creams cannot correct sagging. While exercise strengthens the chest muscles, it does not lift sagging skin. Topical products have no scientifically proven effect. Only surgery can achieve a lasting correction.
