In some women, the breasts may become larger than normal due to genetic factors, weight gain, childbirth, or hormonal changes. This is not only an aesthetic concern; it can cause many physical problems such as shoulder, back and neck pain, posture disorders, shortness of breath, and skin irritation. Psychologically, it may also reduce self‑confidence and quality of life.
Breast reduction surgery does not only improve appearance; it relieves the body, restores balance, and ensures aesthetic harmony.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2.5–4 hours. The technique is chosen based on the patient’s breast structure and expectations:
Lollipop technique: A circular incision is made around the areola; excess tissue and skin are removed.
Inverted‑T technique: Preferred for larger breasts; excess tissues are removed through a ‘T’-shaped incision on the lower part of the breast.
In both techniques, the goal is to remove excess tissue and skin while creating a natural, symmetrical, and proportional breast. A drain is placed at the end of surgery; the patient usually stays one night in the hospital.
• Those with neck, back, or shoulder pain
• Those with rashes or wounds under the breasts
• Those who cannot exercise or have difficulty finding clothes due to breast size
• Those who desire a more balanced body form aesthetically
It is suitable for individuals over 18. In cases of extreme enlargement that adversely affects adolescence, it can be performed earlier for medical necessity.
A detailed examination and surgical plan are made before the operation. The patient’s general health, breast structure, previous illnesses, and expectations are evaluated.
• Stop smoking at least 1 month beforehand.
• Weight loss is recommended for obese patients.
• Preoperative photographs and measurements are taken and planning is completed.
• The patient typically stays in the hospital for 1 day.
• After drains are removed, a special bra is worn.
• Home rest is recommended for the first week, after which light daily activities can be resumed.
• A sports bra should be used for 4 weeks.
• The final breast shape is usually achieved within 6–12 months.
Mild stinging, tightness, or swelling in the first weeks is normal. Smoking and alcohol negatively affect wound healing; therefore, they are strictly discouraged for the first month.
With modern techniques, the milk ducts are preserved. Therefore, breastfeeding function generally continues after breast reduction. Only with the ‘free nipple graft’ technique used in very advanced cases may breastfeeding be affected.
As with any surgery, scars may remain; however, they usually fade over time. After the lollipop technique, the scar remains around the areola and is often hardly noticeable. After the inverted‑T technique, in addition to the lollipop scar, there is a scar along the inframammary fold, so it is not visible from the front.
• Significant reduction in back, neck, and shoulder pain
• Improved posture
• Resolution of skin problems
• Easier physical activity
• A proportional and aesthetically pleasing appearance
• Increased self‑confidence and psychological relief
On average 2.5–4 hours, depending on breast size.
Usually mild and easily controlled with prescribed analgesics.
They are pinkish in the first months and fade over time to approach skin tone. Full maturation may take up to 1 year.
Yes. In most techniques, the nipple‑areola complex and milk ducts are preserved, so breastfeeding is generally not affected.
For desk jobs, in 7–10 days; for physically demanding jobs, after 3–4 weeks.
Swelling subsides in 4–6 weeks; the final shape settles in 6–12 months.
Breast reduction is not merely an aesthetic procedure; it is a health intervention that enhances a woman’s quality of life. The aim is to achieve a breast that is proportional to the body, natural‑looking, aesthetic, and functional. Since every patient’s needs are different, planning must be individualized.
Fees vary depending on breast size, the hospital where the operation is performed, and individual expectations. For detailed information or to schedule a consultation, please contact us at +90 530 500 53 22.
