No. In forehead reduction, after an incision is made along the hairline, the tissues are elevated all the way to the back of the scalp. Internal incisions are made to release the tissues, allowing the scalp to advance forward without tension. Strong internal sutures are placed to prevent scar widening, and then the skin is closed.
If the hairline is stable and hair loss is not ongoing, the scar is usually hidden by newly growing baby hairs. Over time, the scar fades. Especially in patients with long hair, the scar can be very well concealed.
With forehead reduction, we aim for a minimum reduction of 0.60 inch (1.5 cm). In most cases, more can be removed, with an average reduction of 0.80–1.00 inch (2–2.5 cm), and sometimes even more.
